Genoa, one of the biggest town planning in Europe.

The Parodi Bridge competition (inXII 7,196,199) ended with the awarding of the job to Van Berkel with a proposal almost organic that simulates the hills of Ligurian Territory sliding to the sea…..a shell that will contain public services, common spaces as extent on the sea of the city.

Nothing to comment about the project of Ben Van Berkel, after all, among the four finalists, he was the most interested; for sure the Oma-Boeri project was the most innovatory, modern and closely linked to the tradition of the space and not to the image…

But comprehensively, changing range, and having a general view we must maintain that Genoa , starting from the end of eighties and more exactly in 1992 (for Colombo celebration)until today ( G8)is a continuous renwal and transformation just within its heart the " Port" modifyng consequentely the city in its energy .

The conquest of the sea,the appearing of the city, the permeability among the narrow and winding streets of the historic center find in this wide space close to the sea an extraordinary European dimension.

A transaction of 1.000.000.000.000 lire entirely public, a restoration comparable to the one of Berlin,Paris and Barcellona.... the matrix project of Renzo Piano made of components that end from time to time together with architectural objects that characterize the place like astonishing composition of intelligent technologies, in this way has been projected the Slipway crane( "Bigo") the awning for festivals, the aquarium the gigantic wind mills that crown together with palmas the wide spaces.. and finally the Bubble... a transparent globe that interacts with the sun shading automaticly itself and keeping inside a stable temperature .

The building sites increase Bohigas-Bona, Rizzo, DeCarlo..an urban project that in its nature renews the image rearranges the urbanistic structure ,accepts the challenge to be the most important port of north Mediterranean, to be a commercial pole and an exchange knot for Europe.

This renewal aims to the big industrial transformations ,to tourism, from stockage to the " production of quaternary".

Here the Architecture play a role of assimilation a learned substitution for parts suggesting the "new" having deep roots in the past... …this awareness is found out by the book of Aliresa,Naser Eslami," Genoa and the mediterranean/oversea reflections on the artistic culture and the Architecture of urban space XII-XVII century" that persuades to the reflection of a look from outside, the mediterranean sea seen from east…. The big charm of the territorys where cultures meet each others and exchange… just as the sense of the city.
